Description
Small wooden gavel accompanied by typeset printed label reading: "CRUDE 'BUSH' GAVEL RESCUED FROM / TAMBO COURTHOUSE / 2008". Imperfections in the manufacture of the object (i.e. the rough and splintered shaping of the hammer's cylindrical head) indicate that it was fashioned for local purposes with makeshift local materials. The absence of literature suggesting that Magistrates used gavels in Queensland, in any particular region, or during any specific historical period, further indicates that the object is a non-standard object issued for the performance of magisterial functions.
